Unfortunately, all members of our dinning party became violently ill hours after eating there.
Waitress acted personally offended when I told her it was bad and tried to argue with me so I asked her to take it off the check, but leave the fries because they were good.
Food was terrible. Seriously don’t know where all these good reviews are coming from haha. Had the worst pulled pork of my life here.
2 star because they serve beer and the atmosphere was cool.
Needless to say, I am less than impressed with Humphrey Pete's and have no interest in ever returning there.
1) Another 'manager' might return my call eventually (no one has ever called me back) because the manager on-duty at the time of my call did not view it as her responsibility.
Tasted like they dumped an entire gallon of pepper into a crockpot and over cooked some pork in it.
Cups were nicked. Oh well.
We split the bland fatty steak, but both left hungry and unsatisfied.
After phoning Humphrey Pete's the following morning, I was informed of two things:
My husband (who eats anything) kindly offered to switch me because his steak wasn’t that good either, even refused to eat it, struggling to swallow his bite.
We stop here every year on our way to lake Brownwood. Always good food. Great for large groups. Good food and prices.
This used to be one of my favorite places to go in Brownwood. Now, not so much. For example, I was there with guests on November 22, 2017. Service was extremely slow, waitress was barely attentive, food arrived very late, and orders were incorrect. Sirloin steak extremely undercooked and tough, waitress never came to check. Both burgers burnt to inedible. Kitchen apparently ran out of potatoes, yet this was never mentioned until we asked why our parts of our orders were missing. Waitress made no offer to substitute. Seemed to either not care or to be overwhelmed, yet restaurant under full capacity at the time. Had to go to to bar for refills, after running out of anything to drink.
Stomachs felt upset after eating here. Glad we didn’t eat more after reading some of the other reviews.
There are many other choices you should go to if you’re thinking of eating here.
On top of this, I made an effort to discuss with someone in charge. No one came to talk to us. I emailed the restaurant directly the next day. No one responded. Overall, an absolutely embarrassing and miserable experience.
2) Any belongings left pretty much become property of the waitstaff.
Food looked good. Food tasted ok too.
The service was lackadaisical at best and required constant prodding - we really did appreciate the delivery of the forks though.
Then, as we asked for the check, here comes our young neglectful waitress, apparently an effort to charm for the tip.
Personally, I wouldn't risk it.

Chaotic environment or dusty 'ambiance'? I'm not sure exactly how to sum up the interior of Humphrey Pete's other than to say that there is a grease splattered TV sitting on an uncovered folding table taking center stage in the main dinning room. Gag.
Best of the American/Texas style food offerings in Brownwood. Not much flair with the menu. Does the basics right. Bar is popular and very affordable compared to big cities. Staff are just OK considering the talent pool in the city. Get the rum butter sizzling apple pie.
Maybe you'll have a better experience.
This place can be excellent, and it can be terrible. I haven’t got a clue yet what causes the inconsistency.
